Brasil: Lost in the rainforest
Naz: Amber, don’t move.
Amber: Why?
Naz: Because there’s a jaguar right behind you.
Amber: It’s walking towards me. What should I do?
Amber: I’m serious Naz! What should I do Naz?
Naz: Run!
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you. OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch - listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go! So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Teacher: Good morning class. Today we are learning all about Amazonia, which is also known as the Amazon rainforest. Let’s start with the kinds of animals that live in the rainforest. I want you to listen very carefully and I’m going to play you some animal sounds. Note on your worksheets what animals you can hear.
Teacher: So as you can see, the rainforest is full of dangerous animals. Now can everyone please open their coursebooks?
Amber: Hey Naz, let’s use my secret watch to go to the Rainforest!
Naz: It’s far too dangerous to go there!
Amber: Oh come on, it could be fun! Anyway, we can use the watch to come back if it gets that dangerous.
Teacher: Could you two please stop talking!
Amber: Go on Naz, touch the watch!
Amber: Look at this place! It’s beautiful! Did you hear that?
Naz: Relax Amber, it’s just a monkey. Wow, it’s sweet, isn’t it?
Amber: Yeah, I guess he’s pretty sweet. Oi, don’t grab my hair! Back off monkey! No! Don’t touch that! He’s got the watch! Give that back. Give it back! Come back! Come back!
Naz: Follow him - quickly Amber.
Amber: He’s running towards that river over there.
Naz: Oh no, he’s jumping through the trees! He’s crossing the river! What are we going to do?
Amber: We don’t have a choice - we’ll have to swim across!
Naz: No way.
Amber: It’ll be fine, I’ll go first.
Naz: I’m not swimming across that river. Who knows what might live in there!
Amber: OK, I made it over safely, come on Naz!
Naz: Ah... OK!
Amber: Oh no! You need to swim a bit faster Naz! There’s a snake swimming right behind you!
Naz: That’s an anaconda! They can crush you to death!
Naz: Help! It’s got me! Amber - I can’t breathe!
Amber: What should I do?
Naz: Throw something at the Anaconda’s head.
Amber: Here’s a rock, hang on!
Naz: You did it, it’s gone!
Amber: Quick, take my hand and climb up out of the river.
Naz: Did you see where the monkey went?
Amber: It ran into those trees over there, come on!
Naz: Amber! I just saw the monkey! He’s over there - climbing up that tree!
Naz: Stop. Amber, don’t move.
Amber: Why?
Naz: Because there’s a jaguar right behind you.
Amber: It’s walking towards me. What should I do?
Amber: I’m serious Naz, what should I do?
Naz: Run!
Amber: Climb up the tree!
Amber: That was too close.
Naz: Hang on! Look! There’s the watch, just there - the monkey left it in its nest!
Amber: I’ll climb up and get it.
Naz: Amber!
Amber: What now?
Naz: There is a very large spider crawling up your back.
Amber: Spider? Is it hairy?
Naz: Yes. Very hairy. And it’s got very large fangs.
Amber: Let’s go home. Quick Naz, touch the watch!
Teacher: I said could you please stop talking! Amber, what’s that on your shoulder?
England: to be or not to be
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams. Now, keep this to yourself but I’ve got something amazing to show you. OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go. So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
English teacher: William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. Not that much is known about the man himself, but there are several things ...
English teacher: Feeling sleepy? Are you confused, Miss Adams?
Amber: No sir, I wasn’t asleep! Please don’t be angry. I was thinking about Shakespeare.
English teacher: Ha, do you expect me to believe that?
Amber: Honestly! I’m embarrassed now. I love Shakespeare!
English teacher: Then perhaps you might like to tell the whole class what I just said? What is considered to be Shakespeare’s favourite line from his play, Hamlet?
English teacher: There’s no point in looking at your watch Amber, class doesn’t end for ...
Amber: Right, then. I guess the best way to find out his favourite line is to ask him myself!
Theatre receptionist: Roll up, roll up! Auditions today for William Shakespeare’s new play – Romeo and Juliet! Male actors only! Roll up, roll up!
Amber: Perfect! That’s where I’ll find him! The auditions at the theatre! I’m excited! Oh, but male actors only ... I think I need some different clothes to wear. Hmm, let’s see. Ha, I’m sure I’ll find some in that market over there.
Amber: Check out these fantastic clothes! I look just like a boy from the 16th century! Now I only need to get the boy’s voice right … I need to get the voice right. I need to get the voice right. I need... I need to get the voice right. Hmm.
Amber: Good day, I’m here for the audition!
Theatre receptionist: Curious. You are completely overdressed – this is an audition my dear, not a royal performance for Queen Elizabeth herself! Now, what experience in acting do you have?
Amber: Well, I played a lead role in Richard III last year.
Theatre receptionist: Hmm. William will want to hear you perform.
Amber: Thank you, I’m relieved!
Theatre receptionist: That’s wonderful. Now, if you could please step through the door.
William Shakespeare: Come in, boy. Good to meet you, I’m William Shakespeare. My goodness, you look like a peacock!
William Shakespeare: Now, I will be reading the part of Romeo and you, the part of Juliet. Here is the script. Don’t be scared. Begin reading.
Amber: O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love.
William Shakespeare: Stop there. You’re ... You’re not reading from the script. How do you know these lines? No one has heard this play before! Have you been spying on me?
Amber: No, No! Err ... I ... I studied it at school ... Oh ... I mean ... I just pick things up very quickly. Erm, I’ve got a photographic memory.
William Shakespeare: Photographic memory? What are you talking about? Are you lying to me, boy?
Amber: There’s no need to be suspicious!
William Shakespeare: What’s your name?
Amber: Erm ... To tell you the truth, I’m actually a ...
William Shakespeare: Don’t be shy, boy, spit it out!
Amber: Erm ... Toe ... Bee? No ... I mean, it’s ... Yes, yes, it’s Toby!
William Shakespeare: You don’t know your own name? Well is it Toby or not Toby?
Amber: To be or not to be? Is that a question?
William Shakespeare: Don’t laugh at me, boy, that is a question! Toby or not Toby. Toby or not to be, that is a question? To be or not to be, that is a question! That is the question! That’s the question I’ve been looking for, Toby! What an amazing boy you are!
Amber: I’m actually a girl.
William Shakespeare: Yes, yes, of course. Now, where is my quill and parchment? I think this is the best line that I’ve ever written – my favourite! It’s the missing piece to my new play, Hamlet. To be, or not to be: that is the question! Whether ‘tis greater ... No, no, no ... Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind ...
Amber: Did I just ... I think I just accidentally wrote Shakespeare’s favourite line.
William Shakespeare: ... against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them? To die: to sleep no more!
Amber: Well, I think I’ve got my answer. Time to travel back to class!
English teacher: ... Class doesn’t end for another 15 minutes, now can you tell us the line or not?
Amber: To be, or not to be: that is the question!
English teacher: Huh. A lucky guess.
Amber: It goes on … Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; ...
English teacher: I don’t believe it! I’m shocked!
Amber: ... and by a sleep to say we end The heartache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to, ...
English teacher: Get down off of your chair immediately! I’m not amused!
Amber: ... ’tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish’d. To die: to sleep; To sleep: perchance to dream!
England: to be or not to be: The play
Amber: [friendly] Hi!
Toby: [friendly] Hello and welcome to my clothes stall! How can I help?
Amber: [friendly] I want to buy some boys ...
Toby: [confused] Boys? I don’t sell boys! How dare you ask me such a thing?
Amber: [amused] Ah, if you’ll let me finish, I’m looking for some boy’s clothes.
Toby: [friendly] Oh! I see. I am sorry. Well, you’ve come to the right place then! [suspicious] Hmm. You look funny.
Amber: [excited] That’s because I’m from the future!
Toby: [suspicious] The future? You are strange and I’m not sure I trust you.
Amber: [friendly] Hey you can trust me! Listen, how about we start this conversation again. What’s your name?
Toby: [suspicious] Toby. What’s yours?
Amber: [friendly] Nice to meet you, I’m Amber!
Toby: [unfriendly] I don’t serve people from the future.
Amber: [friendly] Oh please can you help Toby, I really need to disguise myself as a boy!
Toby: [suspicious but interested] Why?
Amber: [excited] Because I’ve come from the future to find William Shakespeare!
Toby: [angry] Stop talking about the future. I don’t believe you!
Amber: [friendly] I’ll prove it to you. Toby, touch my watch!
Toby: [scared] What just happened? Where are we?
Amber: [excited] It’s OK, Toby, relax! We’ve gone to the future! We’re in Camden Market in London in the 21st century!
Toby: [shocked] Oh my goodness! Am I dreaming? This is unbelievable! What is that music? It is very strange.
Amber: [excited] It’s reggae music.
Toby: [excited] Reggae music? I like reggae music.
Toby: [surprised] I can hear a ringing sound, what is that?
Amber: [amused] It’s just a mobile phone.
Toby: [curious] What’s a mobile phone?
Amber: [friendly] It’s a ... it’s a long story.
Toby: [excited] You know what, this music is fantastic. Come on Amber, dance with me!
Amber: [embarrassed] Err ... OK, I guess so.
Toby: [scared, shouting] What’s that?
Amber: [amused] It’s only a helicopter.
Toby: [scared, shouting] A what? It’s a flying monster! I’m scared! We need to go!
Amber: [amused] It’s OK Toby; it’s not going to hurt you.
Toby: [scared, shouting] Please, take me home!
Amber: [amused] OK, calm down I’ll take you home! Quickly, touch my watch.
Toby: [relieved] Oh, thank goodness! I’m home. Never do that to me again!
Amber: [friendly] I’m sorry; I guess I should have told you what was going to happen first.
Toby: [angry] Yes, you should have done that ...
Amber: [friendly] So ... About those boy’s clothes ...
Toby: [unfriendly] Listen, just take whatever you want from this pile – they’re very fashionable, but no one seems to be buying them.
Amber: [excited] Thank you so much, Toby!
Toby: [curious] Now, would you mind doing one last thing for me?
Amber: [friendly] Sure, anything.
Toby: [angry] Please go away and never, ever come back!
USA: Slaves no more
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now, keep this to yourself but I’ve got something amazing to show you. OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go. So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
History Teacher: Quieten down class. Today we’re going to be learning about Abraham Lincoln, who was one of the greatest American presidents. He is remembered by many as one of America’s greatest heroes of the nineteenth century...
Amber: You know what? I think it’s much more exciting when you’re actually there. How about we go and meet President Lincoln for ourselves ...?
Amber: Quick! Behind this tree!
Lincoln: All I’ve been hearing recently is no, no, no and no ...
Senator: But Mr President. It simply will not work! Slavery is a part of our society! Without it, who will work on our farms?
Lincoln: Nonsense, Senator. I believe the declaration that all men are created equal is the great fundamental principle of our country and that slavery goes against that principle! It must be abolished!
Senator: It is too dangerous to try and push this bill through the House of Representatives. It will fail, and remember we are still at war!
Lincoln: I feel the heavy burden of this war every day, sir. Look at these soldiers. They are little more than children – marching off to die for what they believe in. The war will end, and soon. However, slavery must end too. It is morally and politically wrong!
Senator: I bid you good day.
Amber: He’s coming over here!
Lincoln: Slavery must be abolished. But to risk everything ... What, who are you?
Amber: Ah ... Hello ... Mr President.
Lincoln: Boy, what are you doing here?
Amber: My name’s Amber and ... umm ... don’t listen to the Senator, Mr President, slavery is a terrible thing!
Lincoln: The Senator is a good man and he has much to lose. But maybe the Senator is right. Maybe this is the wrong time. War is nearly over. I need to choose: should I bring peace at the cost of keeping slavery, or should I free the slaves but risk keeping us at war?
Amber: It is the right time! One day all the American people will thank you for this.
Lincoln: Hmm. You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
Amber: You don’t need to fool anybody! You will convince everyone and slavery will be abolished.
Lincoln: You speak as if you know the future?
Amber: I come from the future where there are no more slaves. Would you like me to show you?
Lincoln: I don’t have time for jokes boy!
Amber: This isn’t a joke. Put your hand over my watch.
Lincoln: Very well.
Lincoln: What’s happening? How did we get here?
Amber: Nothing to be alarmed about! We’ve just travelled through time to 1955 and we’re about to see something very important indeed, let’s get on this bus.
Man 1: You there, black woman, get out of your seat – there’s a white man that wants to sit in it ... Get up!
Parks: No.
Man 1: Why don’t you stand up?
Parks: I don’t think I should have to stand up.
Man 1: Well, if you don’t stand up, I’m going to have to call the police and have you arrested.
Parks: You may do that.
Amber: Let’s go.
Lincoln: I don’t understand; why is this so important?
Amber: Well, you freed the slaves, but for a long time they weren’t really free as they didn’t have equality. Rosa Parks, the woman we just saw who refused to move out of her seat, ignited the Civil Rights Movement and set in motion events that ensured that the rights of all people, regardless of the colour of their skin, were equally protected by the law.
Lincoln: I see ... That’s amazing.
Amber: Put your hand over my watch, sir.
Lincoln: That’s ... That’s the White House, but it looks ... different.
Amber: The year is 1965 and the Voting Rights Act is about to be passed through Congress. It will mean that any American citizen, from any background, has the right to vote.
Lincoln: I’ve ... I’ve always hoped that this would happen one day ... I’m lost for words.
Amber: Put your hand over my watch for the last time.
Lincoln: Where are we now? These people! Look at their clothes!
Man 2: Duuude, nice Lincoln costume!
Amber: It’s 2008. We’re in Chicago and the first black President of the United States of America has just been voted into power.
Lincoln: My goodness. Who would believe it? Please take me home … I need to sit. There was an old poet who said, “Truth is the daughter of Time”. You have shown me the truth Amber, and it seems that maybe I was born for a reason. America is a place where all things are possible and for a long time I have dreamed of a future where all men are equal. Through the 13th Amendment it is now time for me to make this happen. Thank you Amber.
Amber: Thank you Mr President, and goodbye.
History Teacher: Boring you am I, Miss Adams? Or are you daydreaming again? You probably think the 13th Amendment is something to do with the lunch menu changing in the school cafe. Do you take me for a fool Miss Adams? Do you even know anything about Abraham Lincoln?
Amber: Well, as President Lincoln once said: “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
History Teacher: Do go on ...
Amber: He abolished slavery by adding the 13th Amendment to the constitution of the United States of America and, under his command, the north went on to win the War of Independence.
Lincoln: “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
England: Knights of the Round Table
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch - listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go! So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Sir Lancelot: Merlin! Speak the words of power! Summon a demon to help us in our quest!
Merlin: Anaar Dathrack, Uthra Diendeh! Anaar Dothrak, Uthra Diendeh!
Amber: Oh, hello!
Sir Lancelot: You promised me a demon Merlin, this is ... just a boy dressed in strange clothes.
Merlin: Strange, yes. A mystery, perhaps. Unexpected. The spell was not even completed. What kind of a demon are you boy?
Amber: I’m not a boy and I’m not a demon! I’m Amber.
Merlin: Amber! Amhra! Mother of Time! You come when we need you most!
Sir Lancelot: Merlin, I do not understand what you are saying and we are running out of time! We must get to King Arthur - he needs our help to fight the evil sorceress Morgana!
Merlin: Be calm Sir Lancelot, be calm. This girl is the Mother of Time. She will help you in your quest.
Amber: Erm, yep, there seems to have been some kind of mistake.
Sir Lancelot: We must leave at once. Amber, you see this sword? This is Excalibur, the ancient sword of power, and we have to get it to King Arthur. He is trapped on the battlefield and close to death. Ah, my horse!
Amber: Did you say battlefield ...?
Sir Lancelot: Of course, we are at war!
Amber: Oh.
Merlin: Be safe on your journey and I will see you again.
Sir Lancelot: Take my hand Amber.
Amber: I’m not sure I ...
Sir Lancelot: Nonsense! You can ride with me on my horse. To the King! Rahhhhhh!
Amber: Where has this fog come from? It feels ... strange.
Sir Lancelot: It’s a dragon. It’s in the swamp up ahead. I think it knows we’re coming.
Amber: Dragon? Really? Dragons aren’t real.
Amber: Dragons are real and we should hide right now! Quick let’s head into that cave, maybe there’s a way out on the other side?
Sir Lancelot: No! The dragon could trap us in there and it is rumoured that the caves are full of monsters. Look over there - we should take that rope bridge out of the fog!
Amber: Surely the dragon will see us if we take the rope bridge! What should we do?
Sir Lancelot: We’ll take the caves then. We’ll have to leave the horse behind. Quick, the dragon’s coming! You had better be right, Amber!
Sir Lancelot: My poor horse!
Amber: Well the dragon can’t reach us in here.
Sir Lancelot: I’ll light this torch. That’s better. Well, there’s only one way to go.
Amber: What was that?
Sir Lancelot: Stay close. This would be a good time to use your magic, Mother of Time!
Amber: I keep trying to tell you, I’m not the mother of anyone, let alone time!
Sir Lancelot: You are the worst demon that I’ve ever ... Cave monsters! They’ll drag you into the shadows, crush your head and eat your brain!
Amber: What are we going to do?
Sir Lancelot: Argh!
Merlin: Are you having fun in the dark, Sir Lancelot?
Sir Lancelot: This is no time for jokes, Merlin, we nearly died!
Merlin: Death comes to us all, in time. Now follow me! I know the way out of here.
Amber: You look bad, Merlin. Your cloak is burnt and you have mud on your shoes.
Merlin: I had a meeting with a dragon. It didn’t go that well ...
Amber: Look, up ahead, there are two tunnels, which one shall we take?
Merlin: We’ll take the tunnel to the left, because the tunnel to the right leads back to the dragon.
Sir Lancelot: Another Merlin?
Amber: There are two of them! Two Merlins! But which one is the real Merlin?
Merlin 1: I am! That’s Morgana the evil sorceress in disguise!
Merlin 2: You must come with me and take the tunnel to the right, the left tunnel will take you back to the dragon!
Merlin 1: Don’t listen to him - look his clothes are clean, he hasn’t been near the dragon - you can’t trust him!
Merlin 2: Don’t listen to her, Lancelot. Amber, it’s me!
Sir Lancelot: Amber, what shall we do? Who shall we choose?
Amber: The first Merlin just saved our lives when he could have let the cave monsters kill us!
Sir Lancelot: I agree, and he’s already fought the dragon - look at his clothes. Merlin, we’ll follow you down the left tunnel.
Merlin 1: You’ve made the correct choice, we must move quickly.
Merlin 2: You fools, she’s leading you to your death!
Merlin 1: I’ll be back for you, ‘Morgana’.
Amber: There’s a light up ahead!
Sir Lancelot: We’re nearly there!
Amber: That was close.
Merlin 1: Yes, perhaps a little bit too close.
Amber: What?
Morgana: Attack them! Kill them and eat them!
Sir Lancelot: No! Arghhhhhhhh!
Amber: Lancelot! Arghhhhhhhh!
Amber: Hang on, the second Merlin called the first Merlin ‘she’, but the first Merlin called the second Merlin ‘he’. That means that the second Merlin must be the right one!
Sir Lancelot: I agree. The first Merlin also talked of a ‘meeting’ with the dragon instead of a fight. I bet they’re working together.
Merlin 2: You’ve made the correct choice, we must move quickly.
Morgana: You won’t be so lucky next time!
Merlin 2: I’ll be back for you, Morgana!
Amber: There’s light up ahead.
Sir Lancelot: We’re nearly there!
Amber: That was close.
Merlin: I have come straight from Castle Camelot where King Arthur is trapped by Morgana’s army! You must get Excalibur to him!
Sir Lancelot: I recognize this river, we can follow it and it will lead us straight to the castle. However, without a horse to ride it’s nearly a day’s walk from here. We might be too late!
Amber: Can’t we take this boat down the river?
Sir Lancelot: That will take even longer than walking, there’s not enough wind to fill the sails.
Amber: Well can’t you just use your magic to make some wind, Merlin?
Merlin: Hmm. Maybe. Yes. Yes! Climb on board! Hold on tight!
Merlin: Anaar Dothrak, Uthra Diendeh! Anaar Dothrak, Uthra Diendeh!
Merlin: This will take you directly to the castle. I will go there now and let the King know you are on your way.
Sir Lancelot: There it is, just up ahead - Camelot Castle!
Amber: Sir Lancelot, did Merlin say how we’re supposed to ... stop the boat?
Sir Lancelot: Ah ...
Amber: That, err ... that wall is getting rather close and we’re not slowing down!
Sir Lancelot: Ah ... Ah ... Jump!
Sir Lancelot: I hate you Merlin!
King Arthur: Lancelot! You made it!
Sir Lancelot: My King! Thank goodness we got here in time!
King Arthur: Do you have my sword?
Sir Lancelot: Yes my king, here.
King Arthur: Ah! Excalibur, my old friend! Now, come quickly, Morgana and her dragon are attacking the other side of the castle.
King Arthur: Look! Morgana has cast some kind of spell over Merlin and he is trapped inside it.
Amber: It looks like there’s some kind of magic shield around him?
King Arthur: We can’t break through it, we’ve tried everything. Axes, swords, everything! There seems to be some writing on the side, but it doesn’t make any sense?
Amber: Hang on, I don’t know how, but I think I can understand the writing! It looks like some kind of puzzle - I need time to figure it out!
Messenger: Morgana and the dragon are attacking, my Lord!
King Arthur: We can only hold them off for a minute or so - you’ll have to be quick.
Sir Lancelot: Here they come!
King Arthur: ARE YOU READY TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE?
King Arthur: Amber! Have you got the answer?
Amber: We’ll take the bridge then, let’s just hope the dragon doesn’t see us through the fog.
Sir Lancelot: We will have to dismount, the bridge is too narrow.
Sir Lancelot: We need to move faster, we’re out in the open and the dragon could see us at any moment!
Amber: Watch where you’re standing! Some of the wood is breaking under your feet!
Sir Lancelot: The bridge is falling apart! Run!
Amber: Oh no, we’re not going to make it!
Sir Lancelot: Quickly! Jump!
Sir Lancelot: My horse.
Amber: I’m ... I’m sorry about your horse.
Sir Lancelot: Merlin!
Merlin: This is not the time to lie around in the sun! Get up, the dragon is close by.
Amber: Are you OK Merlin? Your cloak is burnt and you have mud on your shoes.
Merlin: I had a meeting with the dragon earlier. It didn’t go very well. We must take the path to the left, that leads over the mountain.
Sir Lancelot: Another Merlin?
Amber: There are two of them? Two Merlins. But which one is the real one?
Merlin 1: I am! That’s Morgana the sorceress in disguise!
Merlin 2: You must come with me and take the path to the right that leads down the hill, the left path will take you straight to the dragon!
Merlin 1: Don’t listen to him - look his clothes are clean, he hasn’t been near the dragon - you can’t trust him!
Merlin 2: Don’t listen to her, Lancelot. Amber, it's me!
Sir Lancelot: Amber, what shall we do? Who shall we choose?
Amber: The first Merlin could have just pushed us off the cliff.
Sir Lancelot: I agree, and he’s already fought the dragon - look at his clothes. Merlin, we’ll follow you over the mountain, along the left path.
Merlin 1: You’ve made the correct choice, we must move quickly!
Merlin 2: You fools, she’s leading you to your death!
Merlin 1: I’ll be back for you, ‘Morgana’.
Amber: We’re nearly at the top.
Amber: What’s this? The path’s come to a dead end?
Merlin 1: Yes. A dead end.
Amber: What?
Morgana: Attack them! Kill them and eat them!
Sir Lancelot: No! Arghhhhhhhh!
Amber: Lancelot! Arghhhhhhhh!
Amber: Hang on, the second Merlin called the first Merlin ‘she’, but the first Merlin called the second Merlin ‘he’. And he knew my name. That means that the second Merlin must be the right one.

King Arthur: ARE YOU READY TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE?
King Arthur: Amber! Have you got the answer?
Amber: I can’t do it, there isn’t enough time!
Sir Lancelot: It’s too late! Argh!
King Arthur: Lancelot!
Morgana: There’s no one to save you this time, my King. Kill him.
King Arthur: Argh!
Amber: Arthur! Argh!
Amber: DRASU!
Amber: Merlin, you’re free!
Merlin: Amber you saved me! It’s time to end this game, Morgana - I’m coming for you!
Merlin: Anaar Dothrak, Uthra Diendeh! Anaar Dothrak, Uthra Diendeh!
Morgana: No! This cannot happen!
King Arthur: Merlin! Cast a spell to freeze the dragon!
Merlin: Anaar Dathrak!
Merlin: Now Arthur, cut off its head!
Crowd: Victory! Victory!
Amber: We did it. I can’t believe it. We actually did it!
Merlin: You did it Amber, without you we all would have died.
King Arthur: Gather round everyone! Morgana is gone!
Merlin: The dragon is dead!
Merlin: Amber, walk with me.
Amber: I need to go home now Merlin.
Merlin: Well goodbye then Amber, Mother of Time. I have a feeling we’ll meet again one day.
Amber: I hope so Merlin, although no dragons next time please.
Merlin: What is that you’re holding?
Amber: My watch. My secret watch. Goodbye Merlin.
China: The girl in the red dress
Old Hongjun: The darkness is closing in. Come closer to the fire so that I can see your face. My name is Hongjun Laozu and I have a story to tell you - this is the tale of how the Chinese New Year began.
Old Hongjun: There was once an evil monster called Nian who lived in the mountains above a village. Nian would come to the village on the first day of each New Year and eat the people who lived there, and he especially liked the children! But one year a great hero arrived who defeated the monster! That hero was me. But I was helped by a girl. A very special girl. This is the story of the girl in the red dress.
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch - listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go! So what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Old Hongjun: After travelling through the mountains I arrived at the village as the sun was going down, at the same time as the girl in our story. Unexpectedly, she appeared from nowhere and looked very different to the locals, so I decided to sit in the shadows and watch her for a while.
Amber: Ah, this looks like the right place. Hello! I wonder if you can help me? I’m doing a school project on the Chinese New Year and ...
Villager: Who are you? What are you doing outside? Is Nian here?
Old Hongjun: Nian! The monster! Suddenly I was very afraid! I quickly climbed inside a barn but I continued to watch the girl.
Amber: Who is Nian?
Villager: You don’t know? Nian is a monster who comes like a ghost in the night on the first day of each New Year and eats the people from our village!
Amber: Oh dear, that sounds nasty! Erm, what day is it?
Villager: The first day of the New Year!
Amber: Oh. Err, can I come in?
Villager: Quickly!
Old Hongjun: I lay there shivering in the barn all night, too scared to move. However, Nian didn’t come and eventually the morning arrived, so I left the barn. I had some items to sell and the villagers offered me shelter and food and kindly asked me to join them that evening for their New Year celebrations. I saw the girl from the night before and went to talk to her.
Young Hongjun: Hello, my name is Hongjun, and I am also a visitor here - a travelling merchant.
Amber: Nice to meet you, I’m Amber. Hey, if you’re a merchant, then I don’t suppose that you have any clothes for sale? I’ve been invited to the party tonight and I don’t have anything to wear.
Young Hongjun: It just so happens I have a dress that I think will look perfect on you! It’s bright red and very fashionable.
Old Hongjun: So, I sold Amber the red dress and we waited for the night to come and the celebrations to begin.
Villager: You dance well, Amber!
Amber: Thank you! I always like to ... Quick!
Young Hongjun: This way!
Amber: Over here. Well whatever that was, it’s run away now.
Girl: It ... It took Yang ... It took Yang ...
Villager: No! My Yang! My sweet beautiful boy. Who can help me?
Young Hongjun: I’ll help you. Don’t worry; I’ll get your son back.
Amber: And I’ll go with you Hongjun, I’m not afraid of someone or something who steals children!
Villager: Oh thank you, thank you so much! Please, take this torch, so you can see where you are going. Nian lives in a cave, high up in the mountains.
Old Hongjun: We left immediately and began to journey up into the mountains. The night was dark and the path was difficult to climb, but with the low light of the torch, we pushed on into the darkness. The sun began to rise in the east and we finally arrived at Nian’s cave. As we got closer we could hear the roars of the monster inside.
Young Hongjun: Amber, stay back. I will go in first.
Amber: OK, but be careful Hongjun, it’s dark inside the cave. I’ll be hiding right behind you.
Old Hongjun: Trying to control my fear, I spoke in a deep, loud voice:
Young Hongjun: Nian, I am Hongjun Laozu and I have come to ask you to stop attacking the villagers and let the boy go!
Nian: Hmm, you’re just in time for breakfast, I will enjoy crunching on your bones.
Young Hongjun: Let the boy go or else!
Nian: Or else what? I don’t see an army standing behind you?
Amber: I may not be an army, but I’m not scared of you! Let Yang go!
Nian: Dinner as well! It must be my lucky day!
Old Hongjun: As Nian spoke he began to move towards us. Outside the sun was rising and it shone through a crack in the roof of the cave. It shone right on Amber’s red dress.
Nian: No, No!
Amber: What’s going on? What’s Nian scared of?
Young Hongjun: It must be your dress?
Nian: No! Not red, take the red away!
Amber: He’s ... He’s scared of my red dress?
Nian: No! No!
Amber: Quick, Hongjun, grab Yang and let’s get out of here!
Old Hongjun: I put the boy on my shoulder and we ran out of the cave. We ran down the mountain trail and the angry roars of the monster disappeared behind us. Eventually we arrived back at the village.
Villager: Oh, Yang! Yang! Thank you so much, you brought my son back to me!
Amber: Listen everyone; you don’t need to be afraid anymore! Nian is very scared of the colour red. And my red dress made him scream in fear!
Young Hongjun: From now on, you should wear red clothes and put red on your houses at the New Year. Then Nian will be too scared to return and you will be all safe!
Old Hongjun: And this is where my story ends. After that, the villagers put red paper on their front doors before New Year’s Day and Nian never came again. I was a hero! Although I couldn’t have done any of it without Amber, the girl from the legend. The girl in the red dress.
USA: Off to a flying start
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch! But it’s not just any old watch - listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go. So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Captain: Ladies and gentlemen this is your Captain speaking. We’re due to take off at any moment now and I hope you enjoy the flight.
Amber: Yes! We’re going to America, Grandad! We are finally going!
Grandad: Please calm down Amber, I’m feeling rather nervous.
Amber: Sorry, Grandad, I’m just excited! I didn’t know flying made you nervous. I always thought you were very brave.
Grandad: I am brave! I just ... Well, it’s all a bit scary.
Captain: Cabin crew, prepare for take-off.
Grandad: You see, things have changed, it’s not like it was back in the days of Orville and Wilbur Wright. They invented the first aeroplane you know - or flying machine as they called it. They once described flying as, “birds soaring freely through space on the infinite highway of the air!” I’m going to get some sleep, Amber. Wake me when we get there.
Amber: I just can’t believe you’re scared of flying, Grandad ... Grandad? He’s already asleep! Hmm, the Wright brothers sound interesting. I wonder ...
Amber: OK, the year is 1905 and this should be the right place. Yes! That’s
Wilbur Wright over there, I’ve seen his photo on Wikipedia!
Wilbur: Hmm, we just need a little extra weight from somewhere. We need more weight!
Wilbur: Aha! You boy, you must be from the local school. Come here, you look just about the right size!
Amber: I’m a girl.
Wilbur: Of course! How much do you weigh?
Amber: About ...
Wilbur: Actually, let me pick you up. Put your arms out to the sides. Yes! You’re the perfect weight to balance out our flying machine. Follow me!
Amber: Erm, OK! Why are you limping?
Wilbur: Hmm, there was a bit of an accident the other day. However, it was only a small crash and I’m pretty sure we’ve fixed the problem now!
Amber: Small crash? Erm ... I don’t think I want to ...
Wilbur: Nonsense, you’ll love it! The sensation of flying is one of perfect peace mixed with great excitement, if you can imagine it? Orville!
Orville: Yes?
Wilbur: This boy is the perfect weight to balance the machine, you know, so we don’t crash land again.
Amber: I’m a girl!
Wilbur: Don’t be afraid, boy, my brother Orville will tell you what you need to do.
Orville: Hey there little guy! You’ll fly with me, and my brother Wilbur will shout directions from the ground using a megaphone. What’s your name, boy?
Amber: Amber.
Orville: That sure is a funny name for a boy, never mind!
Amber: Is this flying machine safe?
Orville: Oh, yes, yes, yes, ermm, no. Well - it’s probably safe. You’ll be just fine because you’re small enough that you’ll bounce if you fall - small people bounce. Everyone knows that! Now, there’s no need to worry. Climb up the ladder.
Amber: I’m not sure ...
Orville: Yes you are. You have to take risks in life. Up the ladder. Good. Now jump up here. Let me strap you in. Hold on tight to that lever and follow my instructions. Ready for take-off, Wilbur!
Wilbur: I’m starting the engine up, Orville!
Wilbur: WE’RE ALL SET! I’LL LAUNCH THE CATAPULT!
Amber: Catapult? You never said anything about a catapuuuuuuulllllltttt!
Orville: OK, Amber - that lever you’re holding controls the rudder, which steers the flying machine left and right. Give it a try!
Amber: Oh wow! This is amazing!
Orville: We are like birds soaring freely through space on the infinite highway of the air! See, I told you it would turn out alright! Now we’re getting close to the end of the field, so let’s turn sharply to the left.
Amber: Yes, Captain!
Amber: Oh. Orville? I think I got a bit excited and I think I’ve broken the lever.
Orville: ARGH! WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T PANIC! We can still control it. We just need to lean in the direction we want to go!
Amber: Well, can we do that right now? I mean, I know you said ‘DON’T PANIC’, but we’re heading straight towards those trees!
Orville: LEAN TO THE LEFT!
Amber: I can’t, I’m strapped in! Help!
Orville: Quick, let me take the straps off. Now lean left!
Amber: Oh, we made it!
Orville: Phew, that was close.
Orville: Oh.
Amber: Orville, erm, we’re losing height!
Orville: We can glide back to the runway, lean left again. It’s OK, we can go straight over that farm. Don’t worry; we’ll get through this together.
Amber: We’re going to hit that cowshed!
Orville: That was too close. Right, we’re coming into land. HOLD ON TIGHT!
Cabin crew: Please remain seated until the captain has switched off the fasten seatbelt signs and the plane has come to a complete stop.
Grandad: Ah! Good morning! I slept through the whole journey! Are you alright Amber? You’re looking a bit pale...
England: Suffer and suffrage
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch. But it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go. So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
History teacher: OK, that’s about all we’ve got time for today. Now don’t forget to bring your politics coursebooks to class tomorrow, when we’ll be learning about women’s suffrage in the early 20th century. And don’t forget to go to the school hall and vote in the student elections! Are you going to vote in the elections Amber?
Amber: What’s the point? Nothing’s going to change. One vote isn’t going to make a difference.
History teacher: Ah, the youth of today! Emmeline Pankhurst would be turning in her grave.
Amber: Who’s Emmeline Pankhurst?
History teacher: Someone who understood that every single vote is important. Look her up in your coursebook Amber. Oh, I do love that watch of yours …
Crowd: Votes for Women! Votes for Women! Votes for Women! Emmeline: Are you ready? Here’s the alleyway, we can slip away through the crowd and no one will see us. Let’s go! Good to meet you sister and I do like your disguise – they’ll never suspect you dressed like a boy! Come with me. What’s your name?
Amber: Amber Adams.
Emmeline: And I’m Emmeline Pankhurst. Take this hammer, Miss Adams.
Amber: What for? Hey! What are you doing?
Emmeline: I’m doing whatever I have to in order to ensure that women as well as men are allowed to vote.
Amber: But smashing windows? What happened to peaceful protest?
Emmeline: Peaceful? We have tried everything we can to bring about change peacefully. We have presented the government with petitions; we’ve held huge meetings and public demonstrations. At first we were just ignored and then they began arresting us simply for asking for equal rights! We have no other choice but to break the law in order to force the politicians to listen!
Amber: Well, I’ve always been taught that violence isn’t the answer to anything.
Emmeline: Let me tell you a story, Miss Adams. There are two babies, both hungry. One is a calm and quiet baby and the other is a noisy baby who cries, screams and kicks until it has been fed. Well, I think we both know which baby will be fed first...
Amber: But surely breaking the law can’t be the only way?
Emmeline: We don’t want to be law breakers, Miss Adams. We want to be law makers! We demand equality and we will get it! You know our motto – deeds not words, my dear. Deeds. Not. Words!
Policeman: Oi! There they are.
Emmeline: Come this way. When a woman decides to do something, nothing in the world can stop her.
Amber: How can you expect people to support you if you damage their property?
Emmeline: We are not looking for support. Half the country are women, we have all the support we need! What we want is for the government to stand up and take notice of us. Every day from now on we will be on the front pages of all the newspapers and the government will no longer be able to ignore us.
Amber: What ... What are you doing?
Emmeline: I am going to burn this house down.
Amber: No!
Emmeline: Don’t worry, it’s empty, no one will be hurt.
Amber: But if you destroy people’s homes, how can you hope that they’ll respect you?
Emmeline: Look at the history of revolution – there is almost always violence. We have been forced to become soldiers and we are fighting a war for our freedom and our rights. The politicians will wake up and realize that women must have the vote, and that things are going to be very, very uncomfortable until that happens.
Amber: But surely people are going to get hurt?
Emmeline: I have never, ever wanted anyone to be hurt and I strongly believe that we must respect all human life. But listen Amber, you must not forget why we are doing this, because without the vote women will never, ever be truly free. I hope that future generations will understand why every single vote is so very important and why a vote should never be wasted.
Amber: I understand what you’re saying Mrs. Pankhurst and I promise that I’ll never waste a vote.
Emmeline: That is good to hear Amber and I promise to do everything in my power to help you get that vote, beginning with burning down this empty house. I am sending a message to the government and putting the politicians in a position where they will have to choose between giving us our freedom or giving us our death. Freedom or death! Quick! We need to get out of here!
Amber: The police are coming! Oh no, this alleyway is a dead end!
Emmeline: Good.
Amber: Good?
Emmeline: Yes, let them arrest us. We’ll be front page news in the morning. This is our struggle Amber, but one day we will have our freedom. Votes for women!
Policeman: Come ‘ere. You’re nicked!
Emmeline and Amber: Votes for women! Votes for women!
History teacher: Amber? Are you OK? I was only asking about your watch. Amber? Amber, where are you going?
Amber: To the school hall. To vote! Votes for women! Votes for women! Votes for women!
History teacher: Yes, absolutely. Votes for everyone.
China: Kung fu master
Tannoy: After lunch could all students performing in the school play please report to Miss Appleberry’s office.
Bully: Oi! Jimmy, give us your chocolate cake.
Jimmy: No, just leave me alone. Please stop picking on me. You can buy your own cake!
Bully: Why? We can just eat yours! Give us your cake!
Jimmy: Get off! That’s mine!
Amber: Hey, come on, leave Jimmy alone.
Bully: This is none of your business Amber.
Amber: He’s done nothing to you, so stop picking on him!
Bully: And what are you going to do if we don’t? How are you planning to stop us? Or are you some kind of kung fu master?
Amber: I’m tired of this, it’s time to go!
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams. Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch! But it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go. So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Amber: Right, I’m going to learn kung fu and this is the best place to do it! It’s the 17th century and these are the gates of The White Crane Temple on Daliang Mountain in China. I once read about a Buddhist nun called Wu Mei who taught here. She was one of the greatest kung fu masters in Chinese history! So ... I guess I’ll just knock on the front door and ask her to train me. I mean she can only say no can’t she?
Wu Mei: Amber Adams. I have been expecting you. You are late.
Amber: But ... How did you know my name?
Wu Mei: I know many things Amber Adams, and you will call me Master!
Amber: Yes master! Are you Wu Mei?
Wu Mei: I am. Now be silent. Sit down and close your eyes.
Amber: But master, I need to learn how to fight!
Wu Mei: If I were you, I would learn to be quiet first! You are not yet ready to fight.
Amber: You don’t understand, my friend Jimmy is ...
Wu Mei: In trouble? Yes, I know. You want to rescue him. I understand. But you are not here just to learn how to fight, you must first learn how to use your mind.
Amber: But master, I need to help my friend! If I learnt how to fight, I would be able to protect Jimmy!
Wu Mei: You will help your friend in time, but to master the ancient form of kung fu … you must first meditate.
Wu Mei: Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Focus on your breath. Empty your mind.
Amber: I can’t stop thinking master; I feel so angry at the bullies. How can they treat people like this?
Wu Mei: You must let go of yourself. Let your thoughts fly away to the wind. Let your feelings come and go like clouds in a moving sky. Let your breathing guide you!
Amber: Argh. It’s too difficult, there’s too much going on inside my head. If I were a patient person, I would be able to meditate, but I don’t think I can.
Wu Mei: I can feel your strength Amber Adams; you just need to feel it yourself. Come with me, outside! You will find your answers in the wind, up on the mountain top. Let us walk.
Wu Mei: This is the top of the mountain. Sit and let go of all your thoughts. I will be here when you return. Amber! Amhra! Mother of Time! You come when we need you most. Amber, what shall we do? But then she did save our lives … Don’t be afraid, boy. You have to take risks in life. Or are you some kind of kung fu master? Deeds not words my dear. Deeds. Not. Words! To be or not to be, that is the question!
Amber: Master! How long have I been sitting here?
Wu Mei: Long enough. You are now ready to train! The art of learning is to listen! You do not need physical strength. Your focus comes from your mind and you need to summon your power from deep inside yourself.
Wu Mei: You learn very fast Amber Adams and now you are ready to return home. I have done all I can to train you – be true to yourself and you will find there is nothing you cannot do.
Amber: I will, master. I don’t know how to thank you?
Wu Mei: By always remembering that you should only ever use your new skills to defend those who need your help.
Amber: I promise I will remember. Goodbye master, I will miss you.
Bully: Haha, kung fu master!
Amber: Silence! I am a kung fu master, trained by the mighty Wu Mei!
Bully: OK then, kung fu master, try and stop this! Jimmy, give me the rest of your lunch money – now!
Amber: I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
Bully: What are you doing? Get off me!
Amber: Come on Jimmy, let’s get out of here.
Jimmy: Wow. Just wow. Thanks Amber! So you really are a kung fu master?
Amber: I am.
Jimmy: Will you train me to fight?
Amber: Hmm. Perhaps, but first we must sit ...
Jimmy: ... and meditate?
Amber: No, sit and eat cake! Here, have some of mine.
Brazil: The Beautiful Game
Commentator: And as Pelé steps up to take the penalty, will he score his 1000th goal?
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch but it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go! So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Amber: I don’t know!
Grandad: What’s wrong Amber?
Amber: Oh, it’s my homework Grandad. I’m supposed to write about a famous sporting hero but I’m not sure who to do it on.
Grandad: How about a footballer?
Amber: A Footballer? From what I’ve seen on the news, I wouldn’t really call them heroes...
Grandad: What about Pelé? He’s a real hero. The best footballer of all time! Watching him play was like watching a great artist at work!
Amber: Pelé? Yeah, OK, why not? And I know exactly where to find him ...
Amber: It’s 2014 and here we are at the opening ceremony of the Brazilian World Cup! We’re in the Maracanã Stadium, the atmosphere is electric ... and I’m pretty sure that’s Pelé just over there! [Shouting] Pelé! Oi, Pelé!
Pelé: Yes?
Amber: Would you mind signing my watch?
Pelé: Of course, what’s your name?
Pelé: Wha ... What’s happening? Where are we? Hang on, I know this place. This is the town where I grew up! How did we get here?
Amber: Listen Pelé, there’s nothing to worry about and it’s perfectly safe. My name’s Amber and I’m a time traveller and if it’s OK, I’d really like to quickly interview you? You see I’m writing an article on a sporting hero for my school homework.
Pelé: School homework? Are you crazy?
Amber: No, no, no, no, no. I mean ... well ... yes, a little bit, but I’m not like crazy crazy.
Pelé: But I am part of the opening ceremony to the World Cup – I need to be on the pitch in a couple of minutes!
Amber: Don’t worry, I can take you back to exactly the same time and place where we met and ...
Pelé: Wait a minute! Over there – I think that’s ... Yes! It’s me when I was just a boy – playing football! I can’t believe it! Look – we used to use stuffed socks to practise with because we were too poor to buy a real football.
Amber: That’s amazing! OK, can I ask you some questions now? It won’t take long and I promise to take you straight back to the World Cup.
Pelé: This is ... crazy, but OK. Go ahead Amber.
Amber: Thank you! Hang on, let me get my pen and paper out.
Amber: OK, question 1: why do people say that you are the best player ever?
Pelé: Am I the best player ever?
Amber: My Grandad says you are and he’s right about most things.
Pelé: Well, let’s see. When I was 17, I was the youngest ever scorer in a World Cup final in Sweden in 1958. I have three World Cup winner’s medals and I scored 1281 goals in 1363 matches. I scored five goals in a game on six occasions, four goals 30 times and 92 hat tricks. I was also loyal – for most of my career I played for one club in Brazil called Santos. These days it feels like players change clubs every season!
Amber: Is that why you didn’t play for a European club?
Pelé: Quite simply – I love Santos. So much so, that when I signed the contract for my final season, I gave all of my salary to a children’s charity. When I was a boy we didn’t want to be rich and famous, we just wanted to play the beautiful game!
Amber: So did you always want to be a footballer?
Pelé: I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music and Michelangelo was born to paint!
Amber: Who inspired you to become a footballer?
Pelé: My father did. He taught me to play and to truly love the game. Before we had a television we used to listen to all the matches on the radio.
Pelé: I remember the 1950 Brazilian World Cup final like it was yesterday. We played Uruguay in the final and ... we lost 2-1. It was the first time I saw my father cry. I was only nine years old but at that moment I promised my father that I would one day help Brazil to win a World Cup. Eight years later, when I was 17 years old, I’m very glad to say that I did.
Amber: Wow, that’s incredible! Hey, let’s go there! Here, touch my watch.
Pelé: I cannot believe it! We are actually in the stadium. Look, there I am – watch Amber, I am about to score the winning goal!
Pelé: Amber, thank you! Being here, I realize how much I miss being on the pitch. I miss the World Cup and scoring for my country.
Amber: So was that your favourite goal ever?
Pelé: One of my favourites, yes, but if I had to choose one; it would be the 1,000th goal I ever scored. I was playing for my club Santos against Vasco da Gama in the Maracanã stadium, where, in fact, we just met! It was filled with 200,000 people who were chanting my name to score. My legs were actually shaking as I stepped up to take the penalty, but I scored the goal! I remember fans from both teams lifting me up and carrying me on their shoulders! It was a very special moment.
Amber: Thank you so much for answering my questions Pelé, come on I’ll take you back now. Touch my watch.
Announcer: So please give a warm welcome to: PELÉ!
Amber: Goodbye Pelé, it’s so nice to have met you, and listen! The crowd still loves you!
Pelé: Amber, before you go can I ask you a question?
Amber: Of course you can.
Pelé: If you have been to the future, then tell me – who wins the World Cup this year?
Amber: England! We beat Brazil four nil in the final!
Pelé: Seriously? England? Come on ....
Amber: Goodbye!
USA: Man on the moon
Amber: Hi! I’m Amber, Amber Adams! Now keep this to yourself, but I’ve got something amazing to show you! OK, it’s a watch, but it’s not just any old watch – listen to what happens when I touch it! I can use it to travel through time to anywhere I want to go! So, what do you reckon? Are you ready to come on an adventure?
Amber: Here we are Grandad, The National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC!
Grandad: Look Amber, there it is! The actual spacecraft from the first moon landing!
Amber: Wow! It’s smaller than I thought it would be – it must have felt really small for the astronauts who flew in there. Look, it has an audio guide we can listen to – I’ll press the start button.
Audio guide: You are looking at the command module from the Apollo 11 spacecraft that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin used when they became the first people to land on the moon in 1969. After leaving orbit and nearly two kilometres above the surface of the moon, the Lunar Module navigation computer set off several unexpected program alarms. However, the crew decided it was safe to continue with the landing.
Grandad: Just imagine what it would have been like Amber, going where no person has gone before and flying through space in that tiny ship. Just imagine ...
Amber: Imagine? I think I can do a bit better than just imagining … Oh, I wonder what the time is?
Audio guide: After the descent, they finally touched down on the moon ...
Buzz Aldrin: Houston – Mission Control, all systems are operating as normal.
Houston: Roger that, Buzz.
Neil Armstrong: Houston, the autopilot is working fine and under control. We have left orbit and we are beginning the final descent towards the surface of the moon.
Houston: Roger that Neil and good luck. Houston out.
Buzz Aldrin: Neil, can you pass me that ...
Buzz Aldrin: Huh? Who are you?
Amber: Oh hi! Yeah, I didn’t mean to scare you ... It’s OK, I’m not an alien! I’m a ... teenager! Erm ... I didn’t think this through, did I? Are we ... going to land ... err, on the moon?
Neil Armstrong: Houston, err ... We have a problem ... There seems to be a … teenage girl...
Houston: Please repeat Eagle 1, I’m not sure we heard you correctly, did you say... girl?
Buzz Aldrin: Neil, wait a moment. They’ll never believe that someone’s just magically appeared on the ship. We should figure out what’s going on first.
Neil Armstrong: Ah, Houston, no, actually it’s fine. Nothing to worry about. We’re … We’re fine.
Amber: What’s that?
Neil Armstrong: Something to worry about.
Buzz Aldrin: It’s the autopilot alarm! Our flight path has changed. We are now flying towards a giant pile of rocks!
Houston: Buzz, Neil, what’s going on? We’re getting an alarm from the autopilot?
Neil Armstrong: Roger that, Houston. I’m turning the autopilot off. I’ll land the lunar module myself!
Houston: Roger that, Neil.
Robot: Fuel is running out. 40 seconds of fuel left.
Buzz Aldrin: We’re using too much fuel! You’re going to have to bring us in to land quickly, Neil!
Neil Armstrong: Changing to manual control.
Robot: 30 seconds of fuel left.
Neil Armstrong: The thrusters aren’t working properly! I can’t control us!
Amber: Hang on a minute, I can fix that!
Buzz Aldrin: Don’t touch anything!
Amber: Seriously, you can trust me, I’ve studied this. I read about it on the internet.
Neil Armstrong: The what?
Amber: Oh, that hasn’t been invented yet has it?
Robot: 20 seconds of fuel left.
Amber: Look, it’s quite simple really, fixing my smartphone is harder than this. You just need to ... and then ...
Robot: 10 seconds of fuel left.
Amber: And finally ... There!
Neil Armstrong: I’ve got control back!
Buzz Aldrin: Those rocks are coming up really quickly, Neil!
Neil Armstrong: Nearly there, just a bit ... further ...
Robot: Zero seconds of fuel left.
Neil Armstrong: Houston, we have touchdown.
Buzz Aldrin: What’s your name?
Amber: Amber.
Buzz Aldrin: How did you get in here? You nearly killed us!
Neil Armstrong: But then she did save our lives ...
Buzz Aldrin: I can’t decide if I should hit you or hug you. No one is going to believe this when we get home.
Amber: According to the internet, quite a few people don’t believe you even landed on the moon!
Buzz Aldrin: What is this internet thing you keep talking about?
Neil Armstrong: Look Buzz! We’re here. All those years of hard work and training. We’ve travelled for hundreds of thousands of miles and we finally made it.
Buzz Aldrin: Yep. We did it ... And you should put your spacesuit on Neil, as you’re now going to become the first person to moonwalk!
Neil Armstrong: OK! Just a few more small steps and I’ll be the first man on the moon!
Amber: It’s only a small step for you Neil, but it’s a giant leap for mankind.
Neil Armstrong: Yes. Yes it is. You’re right Amber. A giant leap for mankind.
Buzz Aldrin: I don’t know how you got here Amber but without a spacesuit you need to leave now, or we can’t open the outside door.
Amber: That’s OK, I’m going to go now. I’m sorry I nearly killed you. Have a good time on the moon!
Audio guide: After the descent, they finally touched down on the moon and Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. As he took his first step, he spoke the historic words: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” People have often wondered when Neil wrote those words, or even if the words were written for him before the mission began, but he claims that they came to him in a moment of inspiration in the minutes just before he first walked on the moon.
Amber: Oh no! Oh dear ... Oh well.
