Episode 1: The New Deaf Student
Scene 1:
Teacher (Ms. Johnson) enters the classroom and greets the students.
Ms. Johnson: “Good morning, class! Today we have a new student joining us. Her name is Emily and she’ll be sitting at the back.”
Emily enters the classroom carrying a backpack and a piece of paper in her hand. She walks up to the teacher and hands her the paper.
Ms. Johnson: “Ah, I see. Emily is deaf and she’ll need a sign language interpreter. Thank you for letting me know. Let’s all give Emily a warm welcome.”
Scene 2:
Ms. Johnson starts the lesson, writing on the board as Emily watches intently.
Emily nudges the student next to her, indicating she can’t hear what’s being said. The student tries to help her, mouthing the words and gesturing, but it quickly becomes clear it’s not going to work.
Ms. Johnson notices and pauses the lesson.
Ms. Johnson: “Emily, do you have any questions?”
Emily shakes her head.
Ms. Johnson: “Do you know sign language?”
Emily nods.
Ms. Johnson: “Great! Can you tell me what I’ve just said?”
Emily signs the correct answer to Ms. Johnson’s delight, and the lesson continues.
Episode 2: The Secret Admirer
Scene 1:
The lesson is over and all the students are making their way out. Emily is packing up her things when she receives a note from someone. She opens it and reads aloud:
Emily: “You’re the sign that completes my language. Come find me in the library.”
Scene 2:
Emily heads towards the library, looking around for her secret admirer. She spots a student hiding behind a bookshelf and walks over.
Emily: “Hi, did you leave me this note?”
The student looks up, and Emily sees it’s the boy she’s had a crush on since the beginning of the year.
Student: “Yes, I did. I’ve been watching you in class and I couldn’t stand not having the courage to tell you how I feel.”
Emily: “Wow, that’s really sweet. But you do know I’m deaf, right?”
The student looks surprised.
Student: “Oh, right. I forgot.”
Emily: “It’s okay. Actually, would you be interested in learning some sign language?”
The student nods eagerly.
Emily: “Great! Let’s start with ‘hello.’”
Episode 3: The Embarrassing Nickname
Scene 1:
The next day, Emily and the student are sitting together in class. The student tries to sign “hello” to Emily, but it comes out wrong.
Emily: “No, that’s not how you sign it. It’s like this.”
She demonstrates and the student mimics her. Ms. Johnson overhears and smiles.
Scene 2:
The bell rings, and the students get up to leave. As the student gathers his things, Emily taps him on the shoulder.
Emily: “Hey, I was wondering if I could give you a nickname.”
Student: “Sure, that sounds cool.”
Emily: “I was thinking… Handsome Signer.”
The student looks flattered at first, then he realizes.
Student: “Wait, what?”
Emily: “You know, because you’re learning sign language, and… um…”
The student starts laughing.
Student: “That’s hilarious! You can call me Handsome Signer all you want.”
Episode 4: The Awkward Parent-Teacher Conference
Scene 1:
Ms. Johnson schedules a parent-teacher conference with Emily’s mother to discuss her progress. Emily invites Handsome Signer along for moral support. Ms. Johnson welcomes them both and begins the meeting.
Ms. Johnson: “Emily has made great progress in our class in a short amount of time. She’s attentive and dedicated, and her sign language skills are improving every day.”
Emily’s mother nods, proud of her daughter’s accomplishments.
Scene 2:
Ms. Johnson hands over a piece of paper to Emily’s mother with the grades on it. Emily is hovering over Ms. Johnson’s shoulder, watching her mother read the paper and getting excited about her grades.
Emily: (Signing) “What did she say?”
Ms. Johnson: (Signing) “Your mother is pleased with your grades.”
Scene 3:
As the meeting comes to an end, Handsome Signer stands up and stretches. Emily turns to him, signing: “You’re so tall!”
Everyone in the room looks at Emily and her face turns red. Handsome Signer starts to laugh.
Handsome Signer: “It’s okay. I take it as a compliment.”
Emily’s mother and Ms. Johnson exchange a smile, happy to see their students getting along so well.
Episode 5: The Talent Show
Scene 1:
The school is having a talent show. Emily’s mother emails Ms. Johnson to let her know that Emily wants to participate but is too shy to perform alone.
Ms. Johnson: “Don’t worry, I’ll find her a partner.”
She searches through the roster and finds Handsome Signer’s name.
Scene 2:
Ms. Johnson approaches Handsome Signer as he’s walking down the hall.
Ms. Johnson: “Would you be interested in being Emily’s partner for the talent show?”
Handsome Signer: “Absolutely! What are we going to do?”
Ms. Johnson: “You’ll see.”
Episode 6: The Dance Routine
Scene 1:
The talent show is underway, and it’s Emily and Handsome Signer’s turn to perform. They walk up to the stage and Emily taps her foot.
Scene 2:
The music starts, and Emily and Handsome Signer begin signing while dancing. They move in unison, their routine a mix of sign language and movement.
The audience cheers as they finish, and Emily and Handsome Signer take their bows.
Episode 7: The Birthday Surprise
Scene 1:
It’s Emily’s birthday, and she’s excited to celebrate with her classmates. She’s brought in a cake and some decorations, but as the day goes on, it seems like no one remembers.
Emily looks a little downtrodden as the other students start packing up their things.
Scene 2:
Handsome Signer approaches her desk and taps her on the shoulder. He signs “Happy Birthday” to her and presents her with a gift.
Emily looks surprised and thrilled as she unwraps it – it’s a beautifully made bracelet with the ASL sign language alphabet on it.
Emily: “Thank you, it’s amazing.”
Handsome Signer: “Happy birthday, Emily. You deserve it.”
Episode 8: The Lost Voice
Scene 1:
It’s a normal day in class, and Ms. Johnson is leading the lesson. However, she keeps losing her voice, and the students can’t hear what she’s saying.
Ms. Johnson looks flustered as she drinks water, trying to soothe her throat.
Scene 2:
The students start to giggle as Ms. Johnson tries to write on the board and talk at the same time.
Ms. Johnson: “I’m sorry, class. Would someone mind reading the next sentence out loud?”
All eyes turn to Emily, who nods and signs the sentence to Handsome Signer.
Handsome Signer: “Ms. Johnson asks if someone will read this sentence.”
The class erupts in laughter, and Ms. Johnson can’t help but join in.
Episode 9: The Class Clown
Scene 1:
The final exams are approaching, and Ms. Johnson warns the class that they need to start studying.
Student: “Come on, Ms. Johnson. We don’t need to study. We have the class genius here.”
The students turn to Emily, who looks a little taken aback.
Scene 2:
Handsome Signer: “It’s true. Emily is a genius.”
Emily: “Guys, don’t listen to them. I’m just a regular student like you.”
But it’s too late. The class has already dubbed her their resident genius.
Episode 10: The Graduation
Scene 1:
It’s graduation day for the students, and they’re all dressed up in their caps and gowns.
Ms. Johnson: “I can’t believe you’ve all come so far. Congratulations!”
Emily looks teary-eyed as she receives her diploma and shakes hands with Ms. Johnson.
Scene 2:
As the ceremony ends, the students gather around, taking pictures and hugging each other. They applaud as Emily and Handsome Signer move towards the stage.
Handsome Signer: “Before we go, can we show everyone the dance routine from the talent show?”
The students cheer, and Handsome Signer queues up the music. Emily and Handsome Signer start dancing and signing, and soon the whole crowd joins in.
The camera zooms out, and we see the entire school dancing and celebrating together in a hilarious and heartwarming ending.
